It is possible to cancel Speed Buster's laser on Wii/Switch/PC. Slash the katana four times and then kick at the end of the combo to cause a brief slowdown; this slowdown will stop Speed Buster's laser right where it is. It is possible on any difficulty (higher difficulties definitely benefiting more), and it can be done with any katana. This glitch *does not* work on PS3.
Here are the details:
-It seems to be the slowdown itself that cancels Speed Buster's laser. Thanks to a suggestion from explodingpancakeofDOOM while recording, I learned that the slowdown from Death Blows can also cancel the glitch, which can be seen in Extra Clip 1. Obviously, using the regular slash/kick combo is better, but who knows, maybe it has some niche use in a pinch.
-Slashing four times minimum triggers the slowdown with the kick, but it is possible to do the same with longer combos. As can be seen in Extra Clip 2, you can do the lengthy MK-II combo and it'll still work. That said, it's more of a novelty than anything since timing the four slash combo is much easier.
-Side note: I keep forward slashing because it's faster than walking.
-You do not have to be facing the laser to cancel it; at one point in the Switch full run, I deliberately turn my back to Speed Buster, and you'll see me cancelling the laser towards enemies at a few points.
-In Extra Clip 2, I also included an extended bit showing how Speed Buster just stops shooting during a clash (???).
-The timing is generous. The high stance slash combo is preferable since it's faster, but a low stance combo also works.
-It's safer to cancel the laser when she starts shooting, but you can cancel it relatively late, to the point where you can stop it a few steps in front of you. However, it turns out that the hitbox for the laser extends further than the visuals, so it's possible to walk into the laser accidentally if you press forward too quickly. This can be seen in Extra Clip 3, further illustrated here: https://clips.twitch.tv/SullenOriginalCurlewCharlietheUnicorn-xn9h2QCMwHfN3zAa
-The full strat incorporates a detail that we learned from Satoryu's old Speed Buster strat (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qtRhsUv2UI), specifically that we can walk into the trigger without needing to knock down the telephone pole.
-The Switch videos were recorded on Sweet, Wii on Bitter. I don't own the PC version, but it's confirmed to work there, too (logical since it's basically the Switch version). You'll also notice I used every single katana at least once here.
-Overall, it's rather easy to cancel the laser for the full length of the fight. In the full runs, I attempted to walk in a path avoiding enemies, which is fairly easy to do until the end, but they're not hard to deal with either way.
-Neither full run was quite perfect, but since most of the issues happened towards the end (and worked out just fine), I opted to just keep those recordings as is, especially since it's more-than-likely that anyone else would deal with the same situations more than once. It's absolutely possible to do the fight perfectly with this glitch.
It took quite a while, but this is the first major glitch found for the speed run! I'm pretty excited, and it'll add a little more life to the run. Here's hoping we find more.
