The 7th Func Map Jam follows a theme that is particularly up my alley, as I've always been a sucker for base maps.

Unfortuntely this jam is once again on the smaller side, and really has only one truly standout map - Bloughsburgh knocks it out of the park with a combination of interesting design and 2 layers of secrets for a map that kept me interested for quite a while. His readme seemed to indicate that he thought he'd never make a base map; I'm certainly glad the Rubicon textures convinced him otherwise.

The maps by Ionous and ItEndsWithTens were decent but very short. Ionous' map has no shortage of detail despite its brevity, but the readme indeed seems to indicate it was unfinished. Tens' map has a very interesting set piece, but is otherwise very straightforward and sparse.

The other two maps, by Khreathor and NewHouse, were not terribly enjoyable due to extremely poor lighting (even by Quake standards) and harsh enemy/resource balancing. That being said, they are also each author's first completed map and NewHouse's in particular is pretty solid in that regard. Both maps have some unique and interesting ideas: Khreathor introduces a turret puzzle mechanic and vending machines (including a couple of troll instances), while NewHouse incorporates secret silver keys with a choose-your-own-reward system.

The remaining three Func Map Jams also follow cool themes, so I'm looking forward to seeing what those deliver.
