Palisade Guardian 3 - Game preview / gameplay

The bugs are coming and it's up to you to take them down. Or so the premise of Palisade Guardian 3 goes. The game has you taking down wave after wave of giant bugs with a large arsenal of different weaponry. The question is though, is it a good game? We'll have to see.
The game both looks good and looks bad. The best part of the game would most certainly be the guns and the gun animations. Your weapons are done in spiffy 3D and animate very nicely. You've even got depth-of-field blur on most of the guns giving it that extra touch. You'll even see your spent ammo being ejected from the side of your gun as you shoot. The guns even feature nice recoil animations that can affect your aim at times. And with the wide variety of weapons available, you won't quickly get tired of playing with them.
The negative aspect though would probably be the baddies your fighting and the environment. Sure, the baddies are in nice 3D as well, but they're nowhere near as good as the guns. And the background is in a plain 2D painted background. Sure, 2D backgrounds can look good when done right, but here the level of detail and quality in the background rather clashes with the rest of the game. Still, it's not bad enough to drag the rest of the game down though.
As a defense game, your task is to stop the oncoming waves from reaching their destination. Rather than being at the palisade though, you're overlooking the field from the side and taking things out as they come across the terrain. Why they never turn and face you despite your relentlessly attacking them is a mystery. There are different baddies, and how many hits they'll take before going down will vary from baddy to baddy. Of course, you get a variety of weapons as well, so you've got a lot of options how to dispose of them.
As you progress, you'll also be able to upgrade your skills to do more damage, get better accuracy, and so on and so forth. To do that though, you'll need to kill as many of the oncoming bugs as you can. Different weapons also have different skill trees, so it makes for some interesting replay value trying to unlock as many as you can.
All in all, Palisade Guardian 3 is a fun little game. It has some weaknesses in the graphical department, but it's still a fun little game. So go on and give it a shot!
