Future Runner - Game preview / gameplay
2Arcade games are short, fun, and highly addictive. Future Runner brings all that to the field and more with its cutesy retro graphics and quirky sound effects.
Honestly, Future Runner doesn't really look like to be all that much at first. You've got a light blue foreground on top of a darker blue background. Everything is all pixelly and low-res and the levels don't really look to be all that complex. True, it may be like that at first, but wait until you've gotten a couple of minutes into the game and the fun really starts.
As aforementioned, the graphics are pixelly and low-res. Still, there's enough detail to make out that your character is some sort of tiny rabbit dude who's running through some pixelated cityscape. There's not really much else to say about the graphics, but they do their part and add to the retro feel of the game.
The sounds though, really shine here. You've got the cutsey jumping and impact sounds along with a few quirky sound effects when you slide, grab a power up, or fall to your doom. The music is particularly good, and helps keep up the rhythm that you'll need in the game. No, it's not a rhythm game in that sense, but rather as you get into it, you'll find that you need to keep focused on your jumps, slides, and time everything perfectly as the level speeds by faster and faster.
The controls are extremely simple, you don't even need to worry about the "running" aspect of Future Runner. Instead, all you do is jump or slide. You can double jump to reach greater heights or more probably, to clear really tall obstacles. For those who didn't spend their childhoods playing platformers, double jumping is jumping again (somehow ignoring physics and thereby giving it a headache) any time during your first jump. This allows you to almost double the height of your jumps. As the screen scrolls by, you'll have to time those jumps, judge when you need to double jump, and duck under low-hanging obstacles that get in your way. To do all that, you need to pay attention, keep focused, and try not to panic as everything starts speeding by twice or even thrice as fast as when you started.
As said above, Future Runner is a really simple game. That doesn't stop it from being a fun game though, and while it is a short arcade game, it'll give you loads of fun.
