Hey everyone, Dan and Phil here at Phil Nutter’s house ready to conduct an Aussie Garage Interview with our mate that has been in the vanning community since the 70’s and he has had multiple vans. He also has a great collection of Auto Memorabilia in his garage and has over 50 trophies from events such as Max Pinjarra, Motorvation, Claremont Hot Rod Show and several others.

So, lets entry Phil’s mancave. Phil currently owns a 1960 FB Holden Panel Van in Two tone paint of EH Premier Green and Cream Roof, which he owned for over 16 years now. He brought the FB Panel Van as a bare shell with multiple parts and was going to restore it. However, he got distracted and brought other show car as well called a Bufori, which looks like a gangster’s vehicle back in the day. Because of this purchase the FB Panel Van Sat under his carport for about 16 years before it got rebuilt.

Phil found a guy around the corner from where he lives call Steve Houlihan, who rebuilds Hot Rods for a living, and he took the project on to get it restored. Phil had already had some restorage of parts done by Premier Platers in Belmont (no longer there) which cost him $2000 16 years ago, so I would hate to see how much it cost today.

Steve used multiple people and companies to get the Panel Van Restored, like Awesome Paints in Malaga by Sammy, which also does Air Brushing as well. Other areas such as Panel Beaters, Auto Electrician and Mechanic to get the van where it is today.

Trimcare did the complete interior of the FB Panel Van and will soon be redoing the Trailer to match the Van. Phil had done the trailer after purchasing this about two years ago in a 70’s theme looks but has decide to redo this like we said to match the van. Sammy from Awesome paints also painted the trailer in the same colours as the van.
The FB Panel Van is running a Holden 186 Engine that is slightly worked with a 350 Holley, Power Steering, Air Conditioning, Disc Brakes all round and Robtech Front End. Phil made sure it had all the modern cons in it as this was the last car he was ever going to rebuild. It also has a 120lt Stainless steel drop fuel tank for long drives.

Back it the day Phil was part of the largest Van club in WA that started at Youngs Holden in Victoria Park, called WA Custom Van Club. Each event used to attract about 400 vans at a time, now days you are luck to see 40-50 Panel Vans at an event in Perth. The only place that this amount gathers each year is at the WA Van State Titles at Max Pinjarra, which is annual event. Phil has been apart of this event for years and this year he won three different trophies. Phil is now part of West Coast Vanners Car Club.

As you can see in the video, he’s trophy collection goes from 1977 to current with over 50 trophies on display. This have been well deserved based on the show cars he has had in the past.

It was awesome catching up with Phil and seeing his Old FB Panel Van and Trailer, furthermore, all the Auto Memorabilia in the garage. We do have another video of Phil coming out so stay tuned.
