Whoa, AMAZING thumbnail this time.

This is the first Barry battle that was supposed to be interesting. Not only did he introduce Heracross, relatively strong compared to the rest of the team with his STAB Brick Break and coverage moves, but his Starly is also evolved as well. Buizel and Grotle remain mysteriously unevolved however, and you could argue that Ponyta, too, could circumvent its natural evolution level to be more competitive at this point of the game; after all, Barry wouldn't be the first in-game trainer to ignore the evolution requirements.

Be that as it may, this is still an easy fight because of the newly acquired Surf access. The Pokemon this provides access to, as limited as their number may be, reach up to lv. 40 and will last for a very long time. I do, nevertheless, abstain from going for the maximum level for every single one of them, as even with the super repel method it is needlessly time-consuming and frustrating, much like it was in original DPPt (you keep running around without anything appearing, as opposed to repels actually causing the higher-levelled mons to attack), and there will be higher-levelled replacements later down the line for some of them, e.g. Golbat, should I ever want one, or Pelipper (kind of a big deal with Drizzle, obviously).

In fact, Pelipper and Quagsire can just about handle this whole encounter with appropriate typing and power. Pelipper being limited to Water Pulse without expanding finite water-type moves like Surf may be a real bummer, but Quagsire functions well enough after being given the highly accessible (Veilstone Dept Store) Bulldoze TM, firing off heavy physical STABs while remaining weak to just a single move type.

Having Pelipper's Choice Specs stolen is but a minor annoyance, as I guess you can say being flinchhax'd by Ponyta's Stomp or Buizel's Bite is. Not a difficult battle overall.
