The second gym leader, the grass-type specialist Gardenia, isn't terribly different from what she was in Diamond/Pearl, or Platinum for that matter. Her party still runs Grass Knot, and some of the same moves as before. Arguably, Cherubi's Dazzling Gleam access (obviously not a thing in gen 4) doesn't make any lasting impact on the fight. The physical Petal Blizzard in Roserade's set is perhaps the only significant change, if you've been meaning to tank it with Chansey or something.

Heracross remains the shining star of my team in this fight. Though it lacks a bug STAB, which would be highly appropriate here, as well as a decent fighting-type move, Aerial Ace is just the right coverage move to use here. It's able to outright OHKO Cherubi, but Turtwig is trickier. If not taken out quickly enough, it will put up a Reflect, which is certain to make it far tougher to deal with Roserade later on. I have Hoothoot use a Reflect of his own, weakening incoming Razor Leaf damage, after which it starts attacking with Echoed Voice, whose exponential increase in damage eventually spells out doom for Turtwig, just in time for Reflect to wear off (occasionally, it's not used at all in the first place).

Heracross's final matchup against Roserade unfolds at this stage. It can stay alive despite self-inflicted poison damage and Grass Knot thanks to an Oran Berry, 2HKOing with Aerial Ace, not minding Roserade's Sitrus Berry recovery.

This is Heracross's last major contribution to a storyline battle. He's definitely put in the work in the time he existed. Since Honey trees don't feature progressively higher-levelled Pokemon, this is the last we'll be seeing of him in this run.
