Conclusion to the Johto part of the run.

Facing limited roles of glass cannons (which I could really feel, as whenever I failed to grab a OHKO against a trainer I would get punished with an obnoxiously powerful counterattack), my team was fully evolved only before gym 8. Hitmonlee was evolved around Morty (useless there without Mud-Slap), Clefable was mine when I could Surf immediately afterwards, and I got Magmar/Electabuzz after gym 7 or so. Smoochum had to wait a little while longer (and I did miss gen 6's boosted unevolved exp mechanic there), for one big reason - L37 Psychic is learnt as Smoochum but missed completely by Jynx. That's Jynx's best accurate STAB in the maingame, and there are two Psychic-weak Elites ahead, so it felt like a very good idea. I believe I even faced Claire with Smoochum unevolved (could check this bit in the previous vid I uploaded).

As per usual, I faced the E4 quite underlevelled. Yet still, my team destroyed the opposition with elemental punches and some teamwork. I had the cash to buy one of the harder-hitting Game Corner TMs like Fire Blast, Blizzard or Thunder as a STAB for one of my humanoids, but decided to save the cash for the postgame tutors instead. I didn't really need it, looking back.

0:00 Will

Has dual-typed Psychics and really weak Xatus that Jynx could tank if she wanted to, but which are OHKO'd with a SE attack anyway. Exeggutor is somehow not OHKO'd by Magmar's Fire Punch (pretty sure its special defence was quite pathetic), and Electabuzz takes on Slowbro who's made a bit threatening by his Amnesia. Not a good matchup for Hitmonlee however.

03:34 Koga

The master of all things annoying - having Magmar makes taking out 3/5 of his team a walk in the park. The biggest threat is probably Crobat, but only if he gets lucky with Double Team's evasion hax - Buzz gets him with Thunderpunch otherwise. Muk isn't quite OHKO'd by Jynx's Psychic due to having good special bulk.

07:20 Bruno

You'd think, what could be less menacing than Dig!Hitmontop? Yet Clefable is so terribly worn out after facing it. During the Hitmonlee mirror, there is a chance that Hitmonlee gets Swaggered, and that would enable him to sweep the rest of Bruno's mons with +2 HJK (only 85 BP in this gen). That doesn't happen however, so somebody needs to be sacrificed to Machamp. It can be any chip attacker or Jynx herself.

12:38 Karen

Finally some really good use for Hitmonlee. He doesn't OHKO Umbreon though, and Houndoom hurts him really hard with Flamethrower in spite of 'lee's high special defence, so it's a good idea to help Lee maintain his health by having somebody else finish Umby when he starts stalling. Jynx is pretty good here yet again.

16:59 Champion Lance

Having 4x effective elemental punches really helps here, especially seeing how the wielders of said punches outspeed Gyarados and the Barneys. Magmar has a seemingly favourable matchup against Zard, packing a coverage Thunderpunch that hits SE, but Magmar is too underlevelled to win the duel. Clefable's Charm finally finds a use by neutralising Aerodactyl. Hitmonlee whiffs and hits himself (not as hard as he does in later gens). 4/6 of Lance's team fall to OHKOs.

Welp, that's that.

I'll probably do the postgame some time too, but I recently got back to Platinum's 0 exp so these will probably be the next 'mon vids that you'll find on my channel.
