FFT - Level 1 Random Reclass MBO - FINALE / Part 25: Altima
The final battle of the challenge... and what an anti-climactic fight! To be sure, this is somewhat expected with Life Drain/Demi around and every boss after Queklain has been fought with at least SOME access to the fractional damage attacks (which deal far superior damage to high HP bosses than a lv. 1 party with poor skillsets can otherwise achieve), but this was really quick.
I had another recording of this, and it was 10 minutes longer. Ramza had 1 less point of speed, which made it harder for him to cast anything without being interrupted, and Crono the Lancer (for this fight) was given Item instead of Life Drain, which was a bad idea because he doesn't know Hi-Ether. With 2 Life Drain users, taking Altima down was much harder, the minions were giving me a hard time and I was whiffing on 80-95% accurate attacks all the time. The fight ended right after a Grand Cross, which petrifrog'd one of my folks, and was probably more entertaining than this recording, but both the preparation and the performance were faulty, so it made sense to show this instead. Of course, there were a lot more attempts, which were mostly me trying to figure out what to do, how things work, what to avoid and so on.

The final RNG results:
16 Ramza - Archer
15 Crono - Lancer
13 Lenneth - Mediator
15 Mitsuru - Monk
14 Ryu - Thief
Possibly the worst ones I've ever received! However, I have secondary skillsets and equipment can still achieve some things. Since I have no reason to hold down on learning skills, I went ahead and taught a couple people Knight's Equip Shield passive. It's not like I have too many decent shields, but it's better than nothing since nobody is attacking with regular attacks anyway.
Nobody has much as far as passives go, and Speed Save on Crono and Ramza is about the good reaction I've got (since there are no archers around).
So yeah, the classes... Monk has to be the worst one here, as I can't make her a Life Drain user - really need a decent helmet like Golden Hairpin to have a decent enough stock of MP. That's what you get when you're lv. 1, I guess. So the Monk is the party's only user of the Item command, with Chantage to always be there to assist somebody. No X-Potion, Remedy or a particularly extensive Chemist skillset in terms of negative status coverage, but Hi-Ether and Phoenix Down is about all I need; Hi-Potion is better than nothing too.
Altima will always teleport next to my Chantage Monk and kill her with a physical attack. This is very abusable as three people can charge a Life Drain on her as soon as their turns come, and Ramza can get off a Demi not a long time after (he could die before then; if not, he'll rack up some speed boosts with Speed Save). I also have the Lancer go tank some minions together with Alma, since their MT attacks are more likely to miss Alma and could activate Crono's Speed Save. Ramza has the Aegis Shield since the storyline puts him in front of everyone else, meaning dodging magic is highly helpful for him.
Life Drains aren't too inaccurate but they CAN miss. Here they don't, and Altima enters her final phase, which is easier for my party because the minions also disappear (they don't have the same levels as my party; but they're not lv. 50-ish either - wonder why?). Altima II counters with Face Up, meaning subsequent Life Drains are easier to connect after time. Ramza's Demi has a 100% hit rate since he's a Capricorn, but Demi 2 only has a 65% accuracy. He also doesn't have the MP to cast it after the first Demi, and there's absolutely no benefit in trying to connect it since the damage caps at 999.
So this marks the end of another FFT challenge. I suppose I could've banned something else to make it even harder, but an experiment is an experiment and now me and others have something new as food for thought in terms of what challenges could be tried in this game or any other games.
More FFT videos will appear on this channel in the future; as much as my time permits.
