This is the last time you fight Piedmon, after his part of the storyline is over. This fight is one of the many boss battles that you face in between the two Apokarimon battles, all of them being stronger versions of old bosses. Once you've defeated all six, a door opens and you can fight Apokarimon for the second and final time to complete the main storyline.

If you've been building your "social links" (which affect combo rates in this game), your non-Tai/Matt heroes will also receive a Mega form to their Digimon, previously limited to Ultimate forms in the anime.

If your social links aren't high enough, you don't unlock the respective Mega form but have to fight anyway - you're no longer limited in terms of party choice however (Tai has to lead though). If the social link is high, it's WarGreymon + MetalGarurumon + the Digimon whose Mega form you've just unlocked versus the boss.

Piedmon is easily the hardest of all six, and the only one worth showing, really.

What makes it so hard? The answer is rather simple: Super Charge. It gives him +2 levels of attack and defence, making his attacks hurt like hell (gotta heal every turn from then on and it still might not be enough) while also making him invulnerable to damage. He takes such negligible damage that you may as well wait until you debuff him before you start attacking, conserving the SP.

And that's what this battle is - a buff/debuff war. Everyone needs a defence buff, and Defence All Omega is the best way to accomplish that at this point of the game. Attack Up Omega maximises one mon's attack power and goes to Phoenixmon - that's Biyomon newfangled Mega form apparently. Phoenixmon is top priority for attack boosts since he has the Devilslaying property when he attacks - everyone else deals greatly reduced damage.

Starlight Explosion is always the way to go for Phoenixmon after she has set the defence up buffs on the party, and Agumon and Gabumon have nothing left but play support roles. Gabumon gets healing and both breaks, while Agumon helps with breaking defence and setting Regain on Phoenixmon and MetalGarurumon. WarGreymon has both the innate Double Action skill and the Regain skill, so only his teammates need the double turn status - it has to be constantly renewed (every 3 turns).

This video is unusual in that the party doesn't get completely destroyed by Piedmon's Super Charge. He doesn't use it until way too late into the fight, when most of the damage has been done, and I also don't take much time to debuff him.

What would happen on all of the previous attempts I tried to record is Piedmon using Super Charge early, my attacking dealing laughable damage, healing becoming rather insufficient, my debuffs whiffing and not causing the stats to go down - I was really lucky here not to see Super Charge used until too late.

I suppose this would've been easier if I had deliberately ignored maximising Social Links in this game. Then MetalGarurumon isn't fixed and nor is Phoenixmon, so I could enter... a certain Devilslaying party that I will show off in the next battle against Apokarimon.
