Mario arrives at Moleville, which is home to a bunch of moles, and we learn that some of them, including the kids Dyna and Mite, are trapped in the mine. Mario enters the Moleville mines, where they find a familiar foe, as well as another boss who uses Bob-ombs to stop opponents.

As for the rest of the description, I recommend watching the full video before reading past this point of the description

Now that we have arrived at Moleville, as well as see what Bowser was up to, Mario and the others enter the mine, where they find some worker moles. There are no Hidden Treasures in Moleville Mines, but for items, you can get a Star, 15 coins, a Mushroom, and a Flower. This area has some new enemies, first up is Cluster, they appear along with other monsters, and it can use Psyche, this is an instant KO to anyone, it usually goes with that attack if you hit it with a special move.
Now for the normal enemies, Magmite is a rock-like Buzzy Beetle, it has a lot of Defense, but is weak to magic attacks, and these enemies are where you are likely to get a Lucky Flower, which allows you to double your coins or experience if you can find Yoshi.
The flying enemy is called Enigma, which is made up of many smaller bats, and like Clusters, they fight alongside other monsters, their main attack is Echofinder, which inflicts Mute to your party members, preventing them from using special moves, it is weak to Jump attacks.
Bob-ombs are in this game, and they attack by blowing up to deal a lot of damage, when you see them, try to defeat them as quickly as you can, they are weak to Jump and Fire attacks.
When you progress through the mine, there is a spring, and this triggers an event where Croco will steal your money, and he has three Crooks alongside him. Defeating the Crooks give you a Flower Tab, they usually flee battle right at the start. Croco runs around and it is time for another battle with him when you catch him, the difference is Croco will not catch on fire when you use Mario's Fireball on him, but he does have the Fire weakness. Croco has Bomb Toss, he attacks by throwing bombs, and during the fight, he can steal Mario's items and use Monster Toss to throw items at them.
After the battle, you get your items back and make your way through the mine, and there is one section where you can use the Super Star to remove a group of enemies, and the lower section you can get a Frog Coin from a Shy Guy that puses you away on a minecart.
At the end of the mine is Punchinello, he is resistant to a lot of status moves, as well as Mario's Jump. To battle him, you have to get him from behind, he starts off with Microbombs, small Bob-ombs with low HP, you will want to use Mallow's Thunderbolt to remove them so that your party doesn't take damage from them. When Punchinello has taken damage, he them uses Bob-ombs, and he can use Sandstorm to inflict Fear onto your party members. After getting in enough damage, Punchinello will then summon Mezzo Bombs, these have higher HP and attack power. After the battle, he will try to summon a King Bomb, but it ends up blowing him up, and we recieve the third Star Piece.
Then we make it to the end of the mine where we find Dyna and Mite, the two mole kids, and we ride the minecart. For that, you can use the brakes to slow down, collect Mushrooms which are used to speed up, and collect coins, and then crash into one of the houses, or well, the mole kids' house. After saving them, when we exit, we find a bunch of Snifits, and we get a hint on our next place.
You can do the minecart minigame again, and the moles do keep track on your time and you get rewards for it. For sidequests, you can buy Fireworks for 500 coins, you can trade that for a Shiny Stone, then for a Carbo Cookie, which you can give to the mole girl sitting on a bucket, and that takes you to Midas River if you give it to her twice.
The shop has a treasure-hunting Toad, and gives you items based on your progress, the first one is a Lucky Jewel for 100 coins, which can be used to get a Bonus Flower, but it can only be used up to 10 times, and this is the only one you can get in the game. The Swap Shop is where you can trade items for points, and you can get a Fright Bomb, this inflicts fear onto one enemy, the Fire Bomb which deals 120 points of fire damage to all opponents, they can even be obtained if you use a Yoshi Cookie on a Lava Bubble, and Ice Bomb has the same effect, the difference is it deals 140 points of ice damage, I wouldn't say they are worth picking up for now, but you do get some of the items for free later on in the game from certain late-game enmies.
