The last battle against your rival / friend / homeboy.

It is only this late into the game that the move relearner becomes available. As upsetting as it may be for not trying out some flashier moves before this, it was probably a good idea to leave it out of the playthrough of this game until the Elite Four section. After all, you can now "relearn" moves normally learnt at levels you haven't yet reached, so making it available after the 3rd gym, like OR/AS did it, would've broken the game even more... or encouraged playing without Exp Share more, I dunno.

I tried getting Alolan Dugtrio to work against A-Raichu but even giving it the one berry that halves fighting-type damage (hoping these will find use some time in the future... in the X/Y 0 exp run, I don't think I ever used any of them) couldn't enable it to win. On the other hand, it turns out Absol can OHKO Raichu with Sucker Punch, not requiring a crit and not having to worry about Focus Blast at all. L48 Absols caught here have the move already learnt.

Komala has quite the impressive coverage (yet no normal-type STAB), but I end up using it as setup bait. Whimsicott (weakened prior to the battle to die in one turn) exploits its Prankster ability to double my team's speed for the next three turns, and as you may guess these are three turns I spend OHKOing Hau's remaining Pokemon.

Machamp outspeeds and OHKOs Komala with Brick Break, but needs Cross Chop to do the same against the much bulkier Incineroar, in spite of Guts giving it 50% extra attack and all that. Because the Leafeon that Hau uses has speed investments, my Alolan Ninetales needs the Tailwind boost to outspeed, OHKOing with a 100% accurate Blizzard.

Speaking of which, finding a Snow Warning Vulpix is so much harder in Mount Lanakila than it was in the first area Vulpix appeared in, because you can never tell if the next Vulpix switching in on the chain has the ability or not, unless you routinely use moves like Rain Dance yourself... and since they pack quite the punch, it takes forever to get not only a Vulpix, but one with the right level / acceptable nature and IVs.

One thing that's certain is that this Ninetales is going with us to the Elite Four. There's quite a lot to think about regarding the other 5 mons, with several competent candidates available.
