The final Guzma battle until the postgame, that is. Since I'll probably do the postgame after finishing the maingame eventually, I guess that will also be a battle worth sharing later on.

The 3rd fight against Guzma is different from the previous two. Ya boi's team doubles in size and is a whole lot more interesting to fight; to make things even more interesting after the boredom that was the 2nd fight (and arguably the 1st one too), I also decided I wouldn't be using Skarmory (who sets up nicely with Swords Dance) against any of the Pokemon here. It turned out pretty interesting as a result.

The lead is once again Golisopod, more threatening than ever now that I cannot deal sufficient damage force its exit without using a Z-move and still live to tell the tale. The Alolan Golem evolved from a wild Sturdy Graveler really shone here, having two super-effective STABs and not getting OHKO'd by Razor Shell thanks to its ability. Because Golisopod is nearly as slow as Golem, I can Rock Tomb it on the 1st turn and then land the finishing blow on the 2nd when I can outspeed. Wild Charge deals sufficient damage in spite of killing off Golem as well - an electric Z-move would keep Golem alive at the expense of having us watch a long animation. You can see which one I tend to prefer.

Ariados will switch out next, and as you may expect it's a pushover. Drought Torkoal enters the field on my side, leaving me with Sunny Day for the next five turns. It only 2HKOs Ariados with Lava Plume (its natural move at this point) but this is quick enough for my needs. Sucker Punch won't kill my Torkoal even though it's got a level advantage.

Masquerain is next, and it's an interesting case indeed. Bug Buzz/Air Slash is great coverage and leaves plenty of its counters reluctant of engaging it one-on-one. Luckily for us, that now-underlevelled Minior we used against Totem Vikavolt can take Bug Buzz while in its defensive forme thanks to its typing, weakening and slowing Masquerain down with Rock Tomb, and then finish the job with Ancientpower on the following turn (Masquerain's Intimidate makes special moves more potent here). Rock Tomb finds effective utility in this battle once more.

Pinsir is the last one, boasting a very powerful X-Scissor and Brick Break for added coverage against some bug-resists. Believe it or not, I can OHKO this dood with a Drought-boosted Flamethrower from a Turtonator 11 levels lower! Very useful considering its defence doesn't enable it to take more than one Brick Break prior to going down itself.

One of the commenters recently said the challenge was getting easy because the wild Pokemon levels are high relatively to the opposition, something that was noticeably evident in the Kalos 0 exp challenge as well. While I think levels play only a fraction of what makes a game challenging (the actual typing, moves and so on of the Pokemon available IMHO forming the more important part of difficulty of a challenge like this, as the wrong Pokemon being used can struggle much more than a properly-equipped underlevelled team), the level gaps being wider here surely played part in making this a whole lot memorable than the first two Guzma fights.

So GG Guzma
