Gladion faced for one last time, with his team at its most complete, including Lucario and the evolved versions of his old Pokemon. For the title defence battle, he only brings Porygon-Z additionally to his team.
Crobat's coverage may be quite limited, but Alolan Golem hurts itself quite hard attacking it with electric-type moves (which can be seen as superfluous coverage for fliers). Luckily, we don't need it anymore after this. Too bad Galvanize!Facade cannot be a thing on this run due to how impossible it is to catch one of those on a 0 exp run.
Golem will cause Lucario to be switched in, and this is a formidable opponent, running a Steelium Z to go into a weakish yet accurate Z-move off Metal Claw. It cannot OHKO my Machamp however, and Guts grants me sufficient strength to easily OHKO with Brick Break with the 50% power boost it gives us. In spite of its typing, its defences aren't exactly Lucario's biggest boon.
Silvally is next, with grass as its typing to have advantage against our... lv. 5 Popplio? It would have an advantage over it regardless of its typing I'd wager. Honchkrow can 2HKO with Fly, no crits required, and heal off the damage done to its physical defence with X-Scissor with Leftovers thanks to the extra turns being mid-air gives it. Unluckily for us, X-Scissor crits the owner of Big Pecks, but in turn I also crit it with Fly. To keep Honchkrow alive, I switch out to A-Dugtrio who absorbs the next X-Scissor, lowering Silvally's speed and finishing it off with Iron Head.
Weavile is the last one to deal with, two of its counters (Golem and Machamp) already weakened to the extent that they can't really switch in any longer. Because of Intimidate and the resistance to Weavile's strongest STAB in Night Slash, Granbull finds utility yet again, OHKOing with Brick Break, which penetrates Weavile's double fighting weakness. Metal Claw doesn't do much against it.
Machamp, Golem, Granbull, Honchkrow, Dugtrio... These are all pretty good endgame Pokemon who could well find use in the Elite Four section of the game, being pretty proficient at the things each of them does and their levels being as high as it gets this late in the game. As you can see, the level gap becomes quite vivid here, something that's expected to continue in the next battles. Let's hope for a challenge!
