It is time for the Water-type Restricted Sparring, and I have done that before, not recorded, but in my own time to see what Restricted Sparring was about. My team was Inteleon, Gastrodon, and Gyarados, as I found these three to be really solid Pokémon, and Water is one of the most common types, so there is a wide variety of them available in this game.
The team I went with for this one is a Rain team that makes use of a Politoed with Drizzle, and I gave her an Eject Button, so when my Politoed is hit by a move, she can switch out, and I went with Kingdra and Barraskewda for my other two Pokémon, both have Swift Swim, Kingdra being the Special attacker, and Barraskewda being the Physical attacker.
I did like how Politoed can get Earth Power, while it is a nice upgrade, I did look into what possible sets to go with, and defensive sets on Politoed were more common, with moves like Icy Wind, Whirlpool, Encore, and Perish Song. With Kingdra, he has some very powerful moves like Hydro Pump and Draco Meteor, and Hurricane is a coverage option with 100% Accuracy in the rain, and Barraskewda is a very powerful Physical attacker in the rain, and she does have the new Flip Turn, it is a Water-type U-turn with 60 power, and Barraskewda is a good user of that move, specially against weakened foes.
While I did use Politoed as a lead for my Rain team, Pelipper is an alternative, and possibly the better Drizzle user, even in Gen 7 where Pelipper was one of the most common Pokémon in Rain teams, and Politoed was hardly used then, but at least you get a choice on which one to use.
Swift Swim is a great Ability to have, and while Kingdra was one of the best Pokémon in Rain teams because of Swift Swim and its great type combination, but then again Kingdra doesn't have any base stats that go over 100, so it is a very well-rounded Pokémon, and it can threaten opponents with Draco Meteor and Hydro Pump.
For alternatives, Ludicolo has Swift Swim, and it does have a unique type combination, so this is a Pokémon to consider if you want to try Restricted Sparring with Water-types, a Water/Ground-type like Gastrodon, Quagsire, or Seismitoad can help against Electric-types, Seismitoad also gets Swift Swim as well. While they are not the most popular options, Golduck, Poliwrath, Mantine, and Drednaw can get Swift Swim for their Ability as well. Wash Rotom is another viable option, as it can use Thunder, a great move on Rain teams.
For Gigantamax options, Blastoise, Inteleon, Kingler, and Drednaw are some notable options, and if you have the Rapid Strike Style Urshifu, this is a very powerful Physical attacker to consider. For top-tier attackers, Gyarados, Azumarill, Dracovish, Crawdaunt, and Golisopod are good options, and for some good Special attackers, Primarina, Starmie, and Clawitzer can work well in battle, and Cloyster for a good mixed attacker.
Water-type Pokémon have some good defensive Pokémon, like Vaporeon, Milotic, Jellicent, Toxapex, Tentacruel, Slowbro, Slowking, Lapras, and a few others. If you are using a Rain team, Thunder and Hurricane have 100% Accuracy, and for good Thunder users, Wash Rotom, Lanturn, Starmie, and Lapras can use it, and for Hurricane users, Pelipper and Kingdra are the ones that stand out.
While there are some good Water-types, there are some lower tier ones that you could try and make them work, like Wishiwashi, Cramorant, Seaking, Qwilfish, Sharpedo, Barbaracle, Octillery, Araquanid, Whiscash, Wailord, Pyukumuku, Arctovish, and a few other Pokémon.
I have looked up Pokémon that can learn the move Flip Turn, which my Barraskewda had for this set of battles, Kingdra, Sharpedo, Keldeo, Blastoise, Primarina, Clawitzer, and Starmie are the few Water-types that can learn that move.
