Thanks to a new CPU benchmark, some of the PS5's secret sauce has finally been REVEALED. Sony have been very cagey on specifics regarding the hardware specs, features and exactly how the Playstation 5 works but thanks to this new benchmark some of the secret sauce of the memory has been explained. Of course, we do already know what TYPE of RAM the PS5 next gen console uses, but specifics beyond that have been a mystery... until now.
We delve into the new PS5 CPU benchmark, what it tells us about the hardware specifications of the Playstation 5, with a focus on the PS5's memory. Both the PS5 and Xbox Series X have 16GB of GDDR6 RAM, but these benchmarks reveal some of the custom tweaks that Sony made to the memory of the Playstation 5 console, including the memory timings and latency. But we also discuss how much of an impact these custom memory timings and latency actually make to not only the RAM speeds and functionality, but the PS5 as a whole.
The GPU shortages, which have heavily impacted both the AMD RDNA 2 RX 6000 and Nvidia Ampere RTX 30 graphics cards, are finally showing signs of significant improvement. The stock availability issues and shortages have caused extreme increases in price for GPUs, reaching 300% more than the MSRP. But finally, we are seeing signs of both the pricing and stock shortages for both RTX 30 and RX 6000 graphics cards to improve. With the cryptocurrency demand finally declining, and the release of Nvidia's LHR hash rate limited cards, hope is finally on the horizon for gamers.
Finally, PowerColor have done an oops and accidentally confirmed the existence of the RX 6600 and RX 6600 XT, which AMD did tease some time ago. The RDNA 2 RX 6000 GPU stack is in sore need of some low end offerings, especially amongst the stock issues for the high end but will the specs and performance match up with the price at launch?
