Nvidia enabled Raytracing on Pascal GPUs a few months after the RTX Turing GPUs released, to show that Raytracing wasn't really possible without specific Ray Accelerators. The 1060 6GB was the lower bottom of the supported GPUs as Raytracing is especially VRAM intensive.

Here, using a 1060 3GB, we can try running Raytracing (Software Lumen) as it's integrated in the Unreal Engine 5, the engine Fortnite is using. To make sure we can get at least 30FPS there are some sacrifices to be made to remove as much burden on the VRAM part.

First, to use Raytracing you have to be on the DX12 mode, which of course runs worse on Pascal GPUs due to the architecture designed for DX11 (as well as Maxwell and Kepler). To reduce VRAM usage it is necessary to use TSR (Temporal Super Resolution) which is an Upscaling technique like FSR 2 and set it to Performance (50% Res Scaling). Although, we use a really low starting point for the Upscaler, the image quality results are surprising!

To improve performance even further (so that we can use Lumen), we have to drop every other setting to Low and especially for Textures as they are the most VRAM intensive setting. Finally setting RT reflections and GI to High instead of Ultra/Epic does provide another necessary performance boost!
