Record of Lodoss War Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth playthrough 08 finale
And so, after all that we've been through, we reach the ultimate truth. After following Parn into the deepest part of the highest point, Deedlit finally remembers and admits the truth. Parn, the real one, not the one we've been following the whole time in this place, has been dead for years. Having fallen in battle. And she admits, having started this whole mess out of a desire to be with him still, she has to set this right. And rather than just a straight one on one against this illusion of Parn, it's merely a "memory" as the enemy stat claims it to be. Not just of Parn, but all of Deedlit's former allies from the start of her first adventure.
It changes forms with very specific attack patterns to avoid. It starts with Parn, then Slayn, Woodchuck, Etho, Ghim, and then back to Parn. Upon defeating the Memory, we're then confronted by Nihil, the eye we have been constantly seeing pop up at certain points in the game during cutscenes of when characters appear. And what we gaze upon at the title screen. This spiritual eye that had been watching us since we began the game for the first time, is the creator of the Labyrinth as much as Deedlit was. Upon it's defeat, Deedlit manages to make a final proper farewell to Parn, and vanishes from the area much in the same fashion as Pirotess did.
And this time we awaken in what is now clearly Deedlit and Parn's home as she is properly in bed, and this is truly reality as she cannot wield the Heritage sword like she could in the dream. Although it wasn't a mere dream as she admits the sense of death was very real there. We venture outside and find Leaf waiting for us, whom states Deedlit had shut herself in for so long, everyone thought she'd have been taken away by the "Spirit of Loneliness." While not able to get details, Leaf informs us it's a rare higher level spirit. Clearly Nihil, the Spirit of Loneliness, found Deedlit in her despairing state, and wanted her, supposedly answering "her call", and thus fabricated the world and events to technically suit Deedlit's tastes to escape the reality of truth from her grieving, but some part of her deep down was refusing the illusion.
Leaf suggests Deedlit make a song of her adventures so it can last forever, which Deedlit decides to take her up on. So we then venture out through the area we briefly went through while in more or less a day dreaming state, and see it for it's true beauty, and of course find the real monument, as it was depicted in the beginning, only in true color. Deedlit finally accepts the true not with anger, grief or sadness anymore, and will continue to live.
And so the credits roll, and suddenly we're treated to a post credits scene, which leads us to Record of Lodoss War: Diadem of the Covenant. Either way, this was one heck of an experience and the story while minimal, is powerful. Plus, it kind of told me something I had been doing is alright. So long as I follow the rules this put into place as it were. Fanfic rambling a bit. But that's how it is. I hope you enjoyed this run. I may redo it in better quality if we get a Switch release of the game.
