Resident Evil Village: The Village | My Fav Thing In... (Resident Evil Village Gameplay & Review)
We all know Resident Evil Village IS Resident Evil 8, but there's a big reason Capcom stuck a word at the end instead of a number: the best bit of Resident Evil Village is the actual village. As you can hear in this conversation, over top of some Resident Evil Village gameplay, the open, Metroidvania-like qualities of Resident Evil Village's hub world are a joy. The wonderful Ed Thorn has been in a nondescript part of Europe for the past few days getting his Resident Evil Village review ready, so Colm asked him to have a chat about the very best thing in Resident Evil Village.

It's not called Resident Evil City, so don't go thinking the freedom of Resident Evil Village equates to a massive world. It doesn't. But, what Capcom have done is fill the hub world of Resident Evil 8 with wonderful challenges for you to overcome, and often loads of sweet treasure at the end of said challenges. And, the risk is worth the reward, as Resident Evil Village treasure will net you a pretty penny at The Duke's shop.
Sometimes, while poking around you might find gun attachments or a new magnum or grenade launcher. And Resident Evil Village weapons are hard to come by, so poking is encouraged. But, as you'll hear Ed say during this Resident Evil Village gameplay, the big thing for him is just how much the village changes after pivotal story beats. Monsters were there were none, clear passageways that were previously blocked, chickens: Resident Evil Village really does urge you to look around its beautiful world when you're not focusing on the game's bosses.
While the more linear areas aren't the focus of this Resident Evil Village PC review chat, Colm and Ed do compare the two more open parts of Resident Evil Village and the more linear bits. There are positives and negatives, basically. The latter stages of the game get a little action-heavy, and thus lose the scares, but the first section – where you'll meet the internet famous Resident Evil Village Lady Dimitrescu – frequently reaches the heights of the hub world, because a lot of it is about solving puzzles and opening closed doors. Quite possibly Ed and Colm's favourite bit as a collective is the second area of Resident Evil Village, which sadly we're not able to show you in this Resident Evil Village gameplay, and nor are we allowed to talk about it during our Resident Evil Village review chat. But, if you're watching this pre-release, know that you're in for a treat with Resident Evil Village Angie and Donna Beneviento.

My Favourite Thing In... is a video series where Colm chats to one of the lovely RPS writers about their absolute favourite thing in a spang new video game they’ve been playing. In some cases, the writer will have to think long and hard about their choice, because the game they’ve been playing mightn’t be that great, while better games will have multiple things for them to pick.
