Route-16 Turbo Famicom / NES CRT TV Playthrough asmr
1Released 10/4/1985, Route-16 Turbo for Famicom is a port by Sunsoft of the 1981 Tehkan arcade game. You race through a series of rooms with mazes in a top-down perspective, gathering money and avoiding enemies. This is yet another example in the early Famicom library of an enhanced arcade port where the port is better than the original. Nintendo has done this occasionally with ports from older games, particularly in the Wii U era.
Though the Turbo version adds improved graphics and sound as well as difficulty settings, it also adds a feature to the map that makes it seizure-inducing. The constant back and forth between the mazes and the map is disorienting to say the least. I would almost go so far as to say this makes it unplayable, except for the fact that a programming error gets that distinction. You literally can't get past Round 9 in this game!
I am considering a playthrough to be beating the Hi Score. I played on an original NES with a Game Genie adapter (see Shorts) to allow for playing a Famicom cartridge. I am using a NES Advantage controller, RCA cables, and a Sharp X-Flat 27" CRT TV.
