Sky Destroyer Famicom / NES CRT TV Playthrough asmr
Released 11/14/1985, Sky Destroyer for Famicom is a port of Taito's arcade rail-shooter. You play as a pilot in the Imperial Japanese Army during WWII, flying a Mitsubishi A6M "Zero" while fighting enemy planes, including a B-24, with a machine gun and missiles. Similar in concept to After Burner, this title works well with the Quickshot Aviator 2 controller. Though not as good as Sega's classic, it plays pretty well to this day.
This game never made it to the NES, and it's easy to see why. You literally fly the same plane that was used in the bombing of Pearl Harbor! After playing Sky Destroyer right after Kinnukiman, I realized my assessment of Battle City was wrong. In that game you play as an Italian Fascist, not a Nazi like I had thought, which better explains the look of the guy on the cover. The War Eagle was also a symbol for Italy, not just Germany. In Kinnukiman you can choose to play as a Nazi, Brockenman, who is mislabeled in the manual as Jr., but his signature move gives him away. In Sky Destroyer you play as an Imperial Japanese Army pilot fighting the Allied forces, including presumably Americans. So, the Famicom apparently has an Axis Powers trilogy?! WTF?!
I am considering a playthrough to be beating the Hi Score. I played on an original NES with a Game Genie adapter (see Shorts) to allow for playing a Famicom cartridge. I am using a Quickshot Aviator 2, RCA cables, and a Sharp X-Flat 27" CRT TV.
