Ninja Jajamaru-kun Famicom / NES CRT TV Playthrough asmr
Released 11/15/1985, Ninja JaJamaru-kun for Famicom is a Jaleco-made sequel to their Famicom port of Ninja-kun: Majou no Bouken. This game would never make it to the NES, although it would get an MSX and VS Arcade port. You play as JaJamaru, Ninja-kun's younger brother, who is trying to rescue Princess Sakura from the evil Catfish Pirate who has betrayed the ninja clan and is freely manipulating yokai for evil deeds. You are aided by a giant magical frog named Gamapa-kun, your shurikens, and a number of powerups. When you defeat a yokai, you can claim its soul for extra points. Ah, now I see why it never made it to the NES!
This game has a lot of charm in its 21 stages, and definitely builds on the first entry in fun ways. It feels like Jaleco took City Connection and cross-bred it with Ninja-kun. The music and level design mirror the former, while everything else mirrors the latter. I am eager to try the ports of this game as it really has some fun ideas. There is even a remake for the WonderSwan that is now on my list of games I need to play.
I am considering a playthrough to be beating the Hi Score. I played on an original NES with a Game Genie adapter (see Shorts) to allow for playing a Famicom cartridge. I am using a NES Advantage controller, RCA cables, and a Sharp X-Flat 27" CRT TV.
