Sonic the Hedgehog (Genesis/Sega Ages) Retro Review: Does It Hold Up? - NichePlays
452021 makes the 30th anniversary of the first Sonic the Hedgehog game! Originally released in 1991 for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, Sonic the Hedgehog is a platformer that revolves around its titular character on an adventure to stop the evil Dr. Robotnik from taking over South Island, turning Sonic's animal friends into evil robots, and collecting the 6 chaos emeralds.
While it's a no-brainer that this game is a great title/a classic, it's garnered the (valid) reputation that it's also a flawed and inconsistent game, as well as (for some) overrated. So today, I'm here to ask if Sonic the Hedgehog holds up, as well as if it's worth a playthrough or two for those new to the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.
