Alex Kidd in Miracle World (Sega Master System) Retro Review: Does It Hold Up? - NichePlays
60Released in 1986 for the Sega Master System, Alex Kidd in Miracle World is a 2D platformer that stars Sega's original mascot as he journies to save the world from the evil King Jenken. Despite being popular enough to warrant half a dozen sequels, the character would find himself replaced by Sonic the Hedgehog in 1991, and has made sporadic appearances in other Sega titles since then. He is, however, due to return to the limelight in a brand-new remake of Alex Kidd in Miracle World (creatively titled Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX) later this month!
As far as platformers go, Alex Kidd in Miracle World is a solid, albeit dated, adventure. It has adequate graphics, good music, and a variety of different gameplay styles, but often feels held back and unfocussed. While I do think it's still worth a playthrough, I'd approach this one with caution if you decide to play it. It's not a bad game, by any stretch of the word, but it shows its age.
