Super Metroid Subversion (v1.1) part 9: Going green
2It's finally time to put the mystery to rest - which means this segment warrants a super-secret spoiler warning!
I came into this thinking I had an idea of what to investigate, but I ended up being entirely wrong, and I'm sparing you the 3 hours of time I wasted barking up the wrong tree (but kept the segments where I acquired the last expansion for 100% items, in a way that hopefully less-than-awkwardly cuts to the rest of the actually interesting stuff).
I subsequently spent probably less than 10 minutes off-stream looking through the demo reel again before something caught my eye that I kicked myself for not seeing earlier. The next night I followed up on that - and the remaining riddles that ensued - before finishing the game once more for that 100% readout at the end. Initially I never expected to accomplish that in this romhack; yet another reason it's easily the best one I've played.
It seems that even now I still haven't solved all of the mysteries, as the "forbidden room" is evidently NOT synonymous with the odd chamber... and I've also unlocked a new mystery to explore sometime, though I think I'll be waiting on that until after October, since I've got some other metroidvania plans for then. Needless to say, Subversion includes an unbelievable amount of replayability, which is not necessarily something I come into romhacks expecting. This is a tough act for anyone to follow, but I certainly hope that it (along with the SMART editor) raises the bar for future creations.
