I use Olimar to go through Classic Mode, and he has gone through some changes from Brawl to this game, in Brawl, Olimar would have up to six Pikmin at a time, and the Pikmin plucked were random, but in this game, Olimar can only have up to three Pikmin at a time, and they are plucked in order from Red Pikmin, Yellow Pikmin, Blue Pikmin, White Pikmin, and Purple Pikmin. Alph was added as an alternate character to Olimar, he was originally planned to be a clone to Olimar where he would use Rock Pikmin, but ended up being an alternate character to Olimar.
Then going over Classic Mode, in Rounds 1 to 3, you fight characters in their default costumes, in Rounds 4 and 5, you fight characters in their alternate costumes, in Round 6, you fight against the Fighting Mii Team, and in the final round, you fight Master Hand, and on Intensity 3.0 or higher, you fight Crazy Hand as well, and on a higher Intensity, you fight against Master Core.
Next is Olimar's custom moves, as this is the only game in the series to have custom moves, Pikmin Pluck is his main move, I know there are some players that like to challenge themselves in using Olimar without his Pikmin, but most of Olimar's moves use Pikmin, the first custom variant of his neutral special is Hardy Pikmin Pluck, which takes more time to pluck Pikmin, and they have more health, allowing them to take more damage than usual, the other variant is Explosive Pikmin Pluck, which triggers an explosion when plucking Pikmin, but they have less health and go down quicker. Olimar's side special is Pikmin Throw, the first variant of that move is Sticky Pikmin Throw, the Pikmin deal less damage, and they latch onto opponents for longer and are not thrown as far, the other variant is Tackle Pikmin Throw, all Pikmin act like Purple Pikmin where they don't latch onto opponents and instead slam into opponents. Then for Olimar's up special, Winged Pikmin, which is better than Pikmin Chain in Brawl, and when Olimar has less Pikmin, he can fly higher and faster, if he has three Pikmin, they do weigh Olimar down, making it not as effective as when he has less Pikmin. The first variant for that move is Winged Pikmin Jump, Winged Pikmin pull Olimar up very quickly, and they push away nearby opponents, the other variant for that move is Mighty Winged Pikmin, which travels in a set distance, and the distance does not depend on the amount of Pikmin, and Olimar cannot fly as far to begin with. Then for Olimar's down special, Pikmin Order, which can change the order of Pikmin after Olimar blows his whistle, the first custom variant is Order Tackle, the Pikmin deal damage while being called back, but it does leave Olimar wide open, the other variant for that move is Dizzy Whistle, which causes opponents to spin in the opposite direction, much like Mario's Cape, and this does leave Olimar wide open to attack.
Olimar is the only character to not use his alternate costume in Classic Mode Rounds 4 and 5, despite having an alternate Trophy, instead you fight Alph, as his Trophy is used instead.
