I am playing Classic Mode with Ryu in this video, once a DLC character in Super Smash Bros. 4, now in the base game for this game, what I usually do is randomize a list to decide who my next character will be whenever I do Classic Mode, and the playlist will display the fighters in roster order. Ryu's Classic Mode route is Seeking a Challenge, every fight on Ryu's Classic Mode route are stamina battles that take place on Omega Form stages, items are disabled, so this does feel like competitive Smash, well it's technically based on Street Fighter II, you didn't have items in Street Fighter, so they kept that reference by turning off items for Ryu's Classic Mode route.
To unlock Ryu, there are many different ways, in Smash 4, he was a DLC character, but this game, one way to unlock him is to play Vs. Matches, where Ryu is the 13th character to be unlocked, and you can even unlock him by completing Classic Mode with Yoshi or anyone in his unlock tree, he is the 3rd character unlocked after Marth.
All of Ryu's matches on his Classic Mode are references to Street Fighter II, as the characters you fight represent the characters from said game, and their theme song would play in said match. In Round 1, you fight Ken on Suzaku Castle, which is obviously a reference to Ken, his theme song even plays in that match. In Round 2, you fight Zero Suit Samus on Onett, referencing Chun-Li, in Round 3, you fight Incineroar, which represents Zangief, and you fight it on Boxing Ring. Then you fight a green Donkey Kong, which represents Blanka, and he is fought on Kongo Falls.
Next is the Bonus Stage, and Ryu is one of few characters to have his Bonus Stage be in the middle of his Classic Mode route, then next is Round 5, you fight a Giant Little Mac, which represents Balrog, and the stage is Boxing Ring. Then you fight Meta Knight in Round 6, which represents Vega, and he is fought on Arena Ferox.
Then for the final battle, you fight both Master Hand and Crazy Hand, and you have Ken as a CPU Ally, this battle is supposed to be a reference to M. Bison, his theme song even plays in this battle. Another bit of trivia about M. Bison, Balrog, and Vega that I didn't even know about until quite recently is that M. Bison is called Vega, Balrog is M. Bison, and Vega is Balrog, that was what they were called in Japanese.
After beating Master Hand and Crazy Hand, you do fight both of them on any difficulty, we get the credits, and the music is Ryu Stage, the Smash 4 remix that is, and if you completed Classic Mode with Ryu for the first time, you unlock his Fighter Spirit.
