#SuperOldGameSaturday - Aladdin (Sega Genesis) + Game Genie & Mega Man: The Wily Wars 1st Look
Originally Recorded/Aired On July 30th, 2022
This year marks the 30th anniversary of Disney's 1992 animated classic, Aladdin, so to celebrate this occasion on #SuperOldGameSaturday, Nocturne wanted to play the 1993 Sega Genesis adaptation from Virgin Games for us, so she came back to the show to do just that. Also, she made for a very unique and well thought out show by choosing to show off the Game Genie video game enhancer to accompany it (and as a backup policy) and, given how well she played this terrific playing, looking, and sounding game, pulling out her Retrobit collector's copy of Mega Man: The Wily Wars as a nice bonus and as a little bit of a preview to when we get to playing that one in the future. So, if you recall how Aladdin's motto in the movie was "I'll improvise", Nocturne did the same, as did I, much to the delight of the chat, which resulted, as always, in great discussions and explorations of this game, its totally different Super Nintendo counterpart (which we'll also play eventually), all the movies in this franchise, our favorite and not so favorite Disney animated films, our adventures in do it yourself video game repair/troubleshooting (which is why there's a hissing noise for the first half of this program) and discussions about the Game Genie, Mega Man: The Wily Wars, our experience with Mega Man and other Capcom games and, in a first for this show, an addition to the guest list for a future show. Aladdin was the 3rd best selling game on the Sega Genesis, if you didn't know and, with this play, Nocturne showed us exactly why and why it's still seen as one of the pinnacles of movie to video game translations with its animation (worked on by Disney animators), its great atmosphere and the fantastic music by Tommy Tallarico and Don Griffin. I once again thank Nocturne for joining the show and guiding us through this one (and through the extra items we showed), as well as the chat for making for another great program to celebrate this 16-bit staple. Hope you enjoy our play of this one (and if you like what you see here, stop by https://www.twitch.tv/captainditrag each Saturday at 7 PM EST to see these streams live and join the conversations on what we play each week)!
