#SuperOldGameSaturday - Sonic Mania (Xbox One)
Originally Recorded/Aired on September 17th, 2022
We're going back to Sonic the Hedgehog for this month's viewer request game on #SuperOldGameSaturday, courtesy of DollyFinn who wanted to see Sonic Mania. For this one, Proterova and Nocturne joined me and we had a good time with what'll be our first look at this 2017 2D Sonic classic that was made "by the mania, for the mania". Nocturne and I played the Mania mode of this one co-operatively with me as Sonic and her as Tails as we played every stage and showed some funny glitches along the way, al while we had great discussions together and with the chat on topics as varied as this Sonic game, how this nods to our favorite classic Sonic titles (and our memories with those), the multitude of announcements from the recent Nintendo Direct, Sony State of Play and Tokyo Game Show, aspects of the making of this game from Simon Thomley and Christian Whitehead, love of the music, 1980s and 90s PSAs, Law & Order SVU actress Mariska Hargitay and much more. As always, we were joined by our great chat that gave their input on everything we discussed. Also, we showed off some of the extra modes, namely, the Competition, Blue Spheres, Time Attack, D.A. Garden and Mean Bean Machine modes... or, at least, I did, due to another case of line-crossing tension I needed to edit out/deal with (Nocturne personally apologizes for that here, Proterova also apologizes for that with Goldeneye, and both promise that will never happen again with their future appearances on the show, and I'm holding them to that, with all due respect), and we lastly gave a brief preview to the Encore mode that we'll return to another time, because we just didn't have enough time to cover everything in this game. We had a great time with this and I thank DollyFinn for the request, the chat for joining us, my guests for joining me and all of you for watching. Hope you enjoy our first play of Sonic Mania (and you like what you see here, stop by https://www.twitch.tv/captainditrag each Saturday at 7 PM EST to see these streams live and join/help drive the conversations on what we play each week)!
