#SuperOldGameSaturday - Parasite Eve (PlayStation) - Part 1

It's time for the next role-playing game here on #SuperOldGameSaturday and, for our 4th RPG on the show, it's another one like Super Mario RPG, Kingdom Hearts and Sailor Moon: Another Story that shaped our interest and love of this genre, making it a perfect fit for giving it the attention and adoration that it deserves (especially with it being semi-hard to come by nowadays). It's also the first Mature-rated RPG we've played and one we've been requested by the chat for a while, as well as by Emetics, who joined the show for Parasite Eve, the 1998 mix of RPG, horror, action-shooter, police procedural and science fiction from Square Soft for the PlayStation. Join us as we begin our journey with Aya Brea, a 25 year old NYPD detective who finds herself on the trail of a mysterious and dangerous figure named Eve following a Christmas Eve date at the opera in Carnegie Hall, only for things to get stranger, darker and more complicated from there. Emetics loves this game and has quite a history with it, which is why when I asked if he wanted to call dibs on this one, he agreed and we had a great time diving deep into this sequel to the 1995 Hideaki Sena novel for our first 5 hour session that, like with every RPG and long-running game, we'll have one of each month until we finish it (which I believe will be 3 or 4 months, especially since we'll also eventually show off the unique area and boss in the EX Game mode). This part, we got our introduction to this game, its world and its great music from Yoko Shimomura, went over our memories of this, RPGs and other games of Square Soft's, information about the deep mechanics of the game and other topics, such as difference in controller button layouts, our seemingly not discussed issues with the PSOne Classic downloadable version we used for this (specifically, as it relates to the PS3 controller and how hard it is to download games on PS3 and ESPECIALLY to PSP in 2022), the films of Paul Verhoeven, Quest 64, various other movies and TV specials, the life lessons and biology knowledge this game can teach you, and of course, aspects of drug use that this game goes into and became a pretty great running factor for this and likely every other part. I thank Emetics once again for starting this one off so strongly and I'm looking forward to part 2 next month, but until then, I hope you enjoy Part 1 of Parasite Eve!
