#SuperOldGameSaturday - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Nintendo 64) Finale + Virtual Chess 64
Originally Recorded/Aired On May 21st, 2022
After 5 months, Proterova and I made it to the end of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on #SuperOldGameSaturday and, in our finale of this Nintendo 64 staple, we showed off why you don't buy the Giant's Knife, how you can't beat the running man and head into Ganon's Castle for the final showdown with Ganondorf. However, we ran this game so efficiently over the past 4 parts that we only had a little over an hour of the game left for this part, so we used this opportunity to spend some more time with Virtual Chess 64, Titus's 1998 N64 game that I'd previously looked at a few years ago with Proterova in the chat for it, but given his expertise, it really made sense to come back to it with him on the show with me. As such, most of this part was of Virtual Chess 64, where we showed off the very bizarre opening that resolution changes previously prevented me from showing, as well as got a crash course on chess from Proterova (who teaches chess and that shines through here), him and I played a game and we dove a bit deeper into the game's robust tutorial mode as we learned more about its features (including a 4-player mode) AI and chess engine than when we previously played it. So yeah, this wasn't exactly the end of Ocarina of Time that you may have been expecting, but we did tie off our 100% play of that game with great discussions with the chat and Proterova while also giving you a unique bonus that the chat seemed just as intrigued by. Also, I must thank Proterova for joining us for Ocarina of Time to make it such a great experience with the game, as well as sharing his love and knowledge of chess here, and I'm looking forward to our future plays (the next of which with him with be Goldeneye 007 on August 27th). Next up for Zelda, though, will be The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, which TheCrochetNerd and I will be starting on June 11th, and until then, hope you enjoy the finale of Ocarina of Time, as well as our revisit to Virtual Chess 64 (and if you like what you see here, stop by https://www.twitch.tv/captainditrag each Saturday at 7 PM EST to see these streams live and join/help drive the conversations on what we play each week)!
