Following Gabe's first testimony, Hadden summons Mujari and asks him to disclose his first contact with Syphon Filter and Agency. To that end, Mujari reveals that he was once a soldier attached to to the paramilitary wing of African National Congress and that his first contact with the virus that will eventually become known as Syphon Filter occurred in 1984 when he was part of a three-man team sent into a Pugari Gold Mine located in Mpumalanga Province, South Africa in order to free the black slaves working within the mines.
