You may be wondering why this video is going up today rather than Thursday, and there's a good reason for this change: the run is finally complete! I've recently recorded Victor, the last boss that was missing, and thus all 33 planned videos have been edited and uploaded! The schedule will be bi-weekly (Tuesday and Thursday) from now on.
Gigantos have some interesting mechanics in Xillia 2:
- First of all, some of these monsters have one or several weak points, which you can see thanks to Ludger's Reconaissance skill. Hitting a weak point is a guaranteed critical hit and it also removes any Iron Stance the Giganto has. In the case of Mega Tusk, its weak point is located on its backside.
- Second, some Gigantos can be inflicted with a Break status for a short period of time or as Samu and I call it, you can force them to "take a nap". There are two ways to trigger this state, for the first one you have to hit their weak spot several times and for the second one you just use 5 different elements during a combo. The method used varies from monster to monster but keep in mind some are immune to Break altogether.
- All your attacks will be treated as Power hits at 300% when the Giganto goes to sleep. Moreover, once the Giganto recovers, it will be temporarily weak to all elements for a few seconds, the multiplier for a Power combo will start at a fixed 300% and they won't have any Iron Stance at all.
Mega Tusk can be guard manipulated to force either a Rising Gash or, more importantly, Varied Charge. Gigantos are wide open for a brief moment after their Arcane Arte misses (Varied Charge in this case) and that's the perfect opportunity to go around with sidesteps and break its weak point with Exalted Divide + Celestial Rupture, forcing a nap.
While Mega Tusk goes to mimir, I use several Artes with a high damage multiplier to deal around 1/4 of its HP, finishing with Dragon's Maw before it wakes up. Dragon's Maw may seem like a weird choice because it can't grab an enemy in this state, but it's useful to pass through Tusk and get it out of the corner. Don't get used to this tho lol
Tusk will wake up while being in retreat phase, which gives me a free opening to start the combo. Hydra Strike has insane autocorrect as Gaius will always face the enemy for the second kick, so I don't need to go to Semi-Auto after Obliteration Cross. Very useful! Provided the enemy can't air recover, that is.
