Wingul is quite the spike in terms of bulk and marks the point at which the game starts to inflate the HP of bosses.

I've kept my level in check by disabling Exp x10 for Character Episodes and also Waterfall Phantom to try to fight him at his "weakest", and the result is that the whole party is at Lv42 vs Wingul's... 45. I don't have the Prima guide at hand to check, but I want to assume that is his minimum level? Either way he has 401.000 HP, way too much for this point of the game.
It doesn't help that Wingul is the first boss Gaius can fight normally so I'm locked to his default weapon, the Shiranami (447 P Atk), or the Festival Paddle after inheriting it for an extra 200 points of Atk and a hilarious 𝘣𝘰𝘯𝘬 sound effect. Even with a full Crisis Boost, we would be looking at a 2-3 mins fight without Double Damage, so yeah, it is finally time to enable it. And this battle is still top 5 in terms of length in spite of that!

So, back to Wingul. Just like in Xillia 1, he will always use Gale Fang when you guard so that's an easy backstep + Retribution to break his Iron Stance and start the combo. Wingul is also extremely heavy as far as human bosses go, to the point a delayed Tiger Blade can't be used at all at a height that would avoid an air recover because he falls so fast. My options for aerial chains are more limited than usual.
I also have to be mindful of knockdowns as I can only inflict 2 of them during the whole combo because I literally cannot break his Iron Stance once OTG Limit happens, he will stand up before I can manage to do so. It doesn't sound right but there's a reason for that.

Do you remember when I said in the Factor Julius video that I would be using Gaius' "true Lv1 stats"? Well, it turns out that it had an unintended side effect: this Gaius' stats are lower compared to what he would have when joining under normal circumstances (and compared to the other party members, for that matter). Default Gaius should be able to use a single Demon Fang to break his Iron Stance but I'm unable to hit the Str threshold because of the lower stats.
All in all, it's not as bad as it sounds since it only matters for Wingul, Odin and maaaaaybe Nachtigal and Jiao, every other boss should be unaffected by this change as far as I'm aware. But you know, something to keep in mind.

Actually I lied. There's a way to bypass Wingul's OTG Limit, and it's all thanks to the Festival Paddle. Demon Fang has a 5% stun rate thanks to its passive effect, which would get rid of all of its Iron Stance should it trigger. It's incredibly funny don't get me wrong, but I'm not gambling for that.
