The Mysterious Cities of Gold (2013, STEAM Gameplay 2020)
The Mysterious Cities of Gold was a kids cartoon/anime back in the 1980's that was set in the 1500's. It followed a group of children (one who is the child of the sun) who have magical medallions that lead them to seven lost cities of gold, Esteban was also looking for his father atop of searching for these fabled cities.
I absolutely loved the animated series as a kid and it quickly became my favorite kid show of all time. After watching season 2 I wasn't really that impressed with it but still watched it out of nostalgia for the 1st season.
This game is based on the 2nd season which was released as a cartoon/anime in 2012, which sees the return of the three kids and journeying to China. The game uses cutscenes from the 2nd series to fill in story telling whilst then the player has to use the three kids to solve puzzles to reach the end of an area.
The graphics of this game are really nice, they suit the game's over all theme and fit in well with the animated cutscenes. The classic theme for the original series has been re-recorded and updated to give it a more Chinese theme to it, which I love also.
As the game progresses the puzzles start to get more tricker and the levels tend to grow quite large. The puzzles not only get harder but they also have timers on each stage that you must try to complete in time for extra end-level bonuses, on top of finding all the scrolls, chests, and keys to advance to the end.
