The secret to Vega's slide (Re-upload from 2021)

There's something that's been nabbing at my attention for a good while now: the fact that Vega's slide, as obvious and counter-able as it is, still seems to work so often.
Even when slowing down matches and looking specifically for it, I've found myself still getting swept off my feet as Vega opponents somehow seem to know the exact frame that I'll stop guarding my feet. As random and scrubby as it feels in the moment, I've found that there's actually a logical progression behind these risky sweeps, (most of the time) and understanding it leads to a foundational tool that will help you across fighting games in general.
Without getting too heavily into it all, (you'll have to check out the video for that) this all points to managing and manipulating instinctual movements you're likely not even aware you're making.
Vega's slide winds up being one of the more obvious examples for this bigger picture concept, and thus serves as a great and relatively digestible entry point into understanding it to a degree that's helpful to your gameplay.
After being hit with enough of these fast-moving, far-reaching, high-priority low attacks, I decided to bite the bullet and put some Vega match footage under the microscope. After watching a handful of my own replays along with a handful of random others, I figured out how we slide victims were being manipulated.
Check out the podcast segment below to see what I came up with, and please chime into the comments with your thoughts, reactions, and any similar situations that you've found especially frustrating. Perhaps the answers to some of your personal problem moves are right in front of your face.
