Top 10 characters who take advantage of lag in Street Fighter 5 (Re-upload from 2021)
5Some characters in Street Fighter 5 seem to build entire game plans around lag. When people ask Capcom to update SF5's netcode, these laggy avatars are likely the characters they most recently faced off against.
When you're playing fighting games online, at least with where technology is at right now, there's just no way around the occasional interruption from lag. It's hard to predict exactly when things will slow down or roll back, and that ushers the flow of gameplay in a specific direction.
Players who rely more heavily on reactions are hindered in this atmosphere, and characters who have lots of attacks that place the onus on the defender to stop them are naturally buffed. Catalyst has listed his top 10 characters who benefit from laggy play in Street Fighter 5, and discussed it up and down on this week's podcast.
The human brain is going to start adapting to continued exposure to any particular setting, and so strategies and policies that aren't as effective in a traditional, offline fighting game setting can rapidly become the norm while playing over the internet.
Given that 2020 had virtually everyone playing from home, these kinds of strategies are likely at an all time high. Those of us who love to chase League Points and get practice from home know the struggle well (and are probably a bit guilty of using the threat of lag to mask our ill-advised maneuvers).
Some characters aren't all that precise, but can really mess you up if they get just that one good hit. I don't want to give away any names from the list, but you probably already have a few instantly coming to mind.
