Untitled's Touhou Doom Gameplay Mod | The Quirky Domain | No Failure Run
It's not everyday you see a map that dares to make the Nightmare mode actually viable to play and not just a meme difficulty for suckers to get frustrated playing the game at. Of course, that's not the only key factor that makes The Quirky Domain quite an intriguing map to play, sporting the "impossible geometry" Non-Euclidean style of mapping that makes navigating a pinch tricky. Though it is quite unfortunate that combat seems to not be affected as much, fighting enemies that are stuck on the ceiling or gravitational combat shenanigans like in Serious Sam sounds like it'd fit this map's alley.
Of course, playing it in plain vanilla wouldn't be quite fitting for my uniform. I tend to not 100% NFRs unlike most walkthroughs out there, feeling that secret/item hunting could either be a waste of time (especially with my habit of resource saving means that the items hidden rarely help me as much as stuff that I just leave in automap marked caches) or in the case of HDest runs, an active risk of ruining perfectly good hour long runs, so I often feel like I have to compensate somehow. Playing Untitled's Touhou Doom gameplay mod on Nightmare with this seemed appropriate. I don't think I've made a video of me running the weapons mod, so this should be a particularly unique sight, aside from the lack of BFG and SSG drops in this map.
Due to how the difficulty has been changed, it's not quite technically Ultra Mode with the fast bullethells, for better and worse. Danmaku Demons and the Gensokyoan Inhabitants have balanced spawns, so we'll be seeing a bit of both in the combat for this map. I did notice a slight incompatibility problem, particularly with the time stop section, since the enemies wouldn't attack each other until the timestop is done and I actually had to engage in combat with the large amount of enemies. Guess this map's scripting doesn't like intruders posing as different actors. I did manage to truck on through, so atleast it wasn't that bad, aside from the "no spellcards use" self challenge being broken.
