The evil army of Robot Seafood Corporation have found your eggs to be a nice delicacy. Protect your eggs in this arcade-style shooting mobile game called Velocispider. The mission is to move your creature from left to right and shoot the robotic seafood monsters. There are enemies that will try to steal your eggs. Shoot them before they steal the eggs or else you will fail if you lose all eggs. Pick up power ups to enhance the projectile's effects and power. Avoid the enemy's attacks to prevent the velocispider from losing lives. Defeat bosses as well to proceed on new levels.

Old-school shooters were excellent exercises in simplicity. They rarely bothered with anything even remotely resembling a story, letting such trivial details take a backseat to utterly improbably and outlandish violence. Well, granted, in the days of Space Invaders, this violence was really pretty much limited to colorful little splashes of pixels on a screen, but the point still stands. These days, it's really easy to overcomplicate things with all sorts of plot devices, new-fangled mechanics, etc... The old school was a classic for a reason, and it's refreshingly nostalgic to see a return to that with Velocispider.

If you've ever played Space Invaders or perhaps Centipede, then you've played this game already. That said though, it's still a great game to play. The graphics are simple but fun, the gameplay is likewise simple and likewise fun, and the overall experience is, you guessed it, simple but fun. And with such a formula, it's hard to go wrong.

As aforementioned, the graphics are fairly simple. They do have modern touches like access to higher color counts, translucency, particle effects, etc... but the core aesthetic of the game is still very clearly rooted in the era when pixelart was king. All of the graphics are done in this retro-style, and they all look absolutely charming. There's a great variety of things to see, and you'll never get bored with the various baddies that swarm down the screen to meet you.

The controls of the game are a cinch to master. As stated before, if you've played Space Invaders, you've played this game. You move around, and you shoot. That's about it. What does take some work though, is timing and dodging everything to get the best possible score. Once you do that though, it's a simple matter to get on with blasting the bad guys out of the sky as they descend upon you.

This game, somewhat unlike the shooters of old, has a bit of a story to it. Granted, that story is so many different kinds of crazy that it could very well have been made up in the days when suggesting a game featuring a fungus-eating Mediterranean plumber who stomps turtles was a good idea rather than a one-way pass to the funny farm. For some reason, you take control of a velociraptor-spider hybrid of sorts (hence, velocispider) as you shoot down the swarms of mechanized sea creatures descending upon you to steal away the eggs you're defending. Yeah, we don't get it either, but it's still fun. You'll have at your fingertips, all sorts of weapons from the standard machine gun to the classic spread shot. Your task is to defend those eggs while shooting down as many bad guys as you can, and taking as little damage as possible. As stated before, simple. And of course, loads of fun.

And that wraps it up for this review. So if you're in the mood to get your hands on some excellent old-school shooting silliness, then go on and grab yourself a copy of Velocispider now! It's free and it's oodles of fun!
