You have invented a wonderful device that can grant any wish. Unfortunately, pirates have stolen this box and it's up to you to get it back here in Yo Yo Ho Ho. Control your character named Markus Overmouse and start searching the pirate island for the missing box and for the one who stole it. Use your automatic musket to shoot down the enemy pirates walking around on the platforms. But you need to be very careful because you can also lose health from their attacks. Shoot down the treasure chests to pick up gold coins and gems, so you can raise your overall score.

Ludicrous gibs, dude. Who ever said that ridiculous levels of violence could only be had in next-gen first person shooters? We bring to you Yo Yo Ho Ho, an old-school retro shooter that has at least as much over the top violence as any other shooter and with just as much fun.

Yo ho ho, it's a pirate's life for me. Sure, with a name like Yo Yo Ho Ho, it would be easy to assume that the game is all about pirates going around, looting other ships, upgrading cannons, trading, etc... Basically 4x but at sea and with rum and scurvy. Now, pirates do make an appearance in the game, but you're not going to be playing them. Instead, you'll be taking your ridiculously powerful semiautomatic musket/blunderbuss and blasting apart those pirates who stole your invention. Yeah, a bit weird, but it works.

The graphics are all retro-like. Sure, SNES era games didn't quite have graphics like these, but it's quite obvious that the game has that old school touch and inspiration. It also has its own share of modern day graphics like translucency, shaders, etc... The two come together to make something really cool and really pretty. All of the character sprites, from the gun-toting inventor you control to the various pirates who roam the rea all have their own little animations. The sprites are all well-designed and well-drawn, making for quite the visual treat. Add to that the ridiculous death animations of the pirates as their flesh is literally blasted off their bones by your blunderbuss and you'll have giggle-inducing fun in no time.

The sounds are likewise really great. Each shot of your massive gun has a satisfying boom, and (perhaps at the risk of sounding like a potentially dangerous a police-watch-worthy maniac) the impact as you hit the pirates with multiple shards of hot lead is just as awesome. Add to that the catchy background music and you've got a real winner.

For such a fun game, the controls are fairly simple. You tap two buttons one one side of the screen to go left and right, and you tap two other buttons on the right side of the screen to jump and to fire. Doesn't get much easier than that. Like any other platformer though, it takes some getting used to, and it'll be a while (and a trail of gibbed pirates) later before you really master the movement. It's no where near as hard as say, Mega Man, but it can be a bit tricky to get a hang of at first, especially if you're not used to shooters like these. Once you do get used to it though, you're in for some awesome pirate-exploding action as you head through level after level in search of your stolen invention.
