ToCA Race Driver 2 (2004) - Every PC F1 Game
ToCA Race Driver 2 by Codemasters, 2004.
This was Codemasters second Race Driver title, and introduced a lot more types of racing, including this F1-alike series called Masters Grand Prix. The cars don't really resemble F1 cars that were around when the game was released, and generally look a bit big and clumsy-looking. They sound alright though!
1. Race Start (Monza): 0:00 Monza isn't in the game, so (from the limited selection of tracks available to the Masters Grand Prix series) I've used Mantorp Park. Graphics in this game are generally quite nice, although with the single seater cars your camera view is floating over the nose, rather than right inside the cockpit.
2. Spray Effects (Silverstone): 0:37 It's Brands Hatch, instead of Silverstone. Rain looks quit effective, but the spray effects fall strongly into the "could do better" category!
3. Tunnel & View (Monaco): 0:54 The only city circuit available to these cars is Surfers Paradise. The lighting here looks lovely.
4. Wet Track (Spa-Francorchamps): 1:13 Spa isn't in the game, so I've used the Nurburgring GP track. The rain effect seems to stop short of the actual track surface!
5. Pitstop (Interlagos): 1:25 when you stopped in the pits in the first ToCA Race Driver, mechanics would work on your car, but as there were so many different series in this game, the developers cheaped out on pitstops, switching to a menu screen of options, then punting you out the pits when you're done!
6. Huge Crash (Montreal): 1:38 Crashes in this game can be spectacular! And they put you out of the race entirely! The physics can be a bit suspect though...
