Pole Position (Namco Museum 50th Anniversary) by Digital Eclipse/Namco, 2005.

Also included in the Namco Museum 50th Anniversary collection is this almost-arcade-perfect port of Pole Position II. It's a lot better than the 1988 DOS port!

I've left on the smoothing effect, which removes the Lego brick stepping on the edge of pixels, but does make the picture look a bit blurry (if does only run at 640x480 resolution anyway!).

1. Race Start (Monza): 0:00 This is the Fuji track, not Monza (although they renamed it "Namco" in the port, to avoid copyright issues). It's pretty much identical to the track in the original Pole Position. Note that the car is now blue, not orange!

2. Spray Effects (Silverstone): 0:21 It's the Fuji track again, as Silverstone isn't in this game. There's also no wet weather, so here's a bit of gameplay in dry conditions instead.

3. Tunnel & View (Monaco): 0:33 This is Long Beach (although they renamed it "Seaside" in the port, to avoid copyright issues), not Monaco. The game has no tunnels anywhere, so I've shown the game crossing the start/finish line, which is the only point something interesting goes by on the track!

4. Wet Track (Spa-Francorchamps): 0:38 I've used Suzuka (although they renamed it "Wonder" in the port, to avoid copyright issues) here , as Spa-Francorchamps is not in this game. There's also no wet weather, so here's a bit of dry weather racing instead.

5. Pitstop (Interlagos): 0:46 This is the USA track (called "Test" in this port), not Interlagos. Pole Position II, much like the original Pole Position, doesn't have pitstops or a pitlane, and just like the original Pole Position, your car explodes as it passes the start-finish line!

6. Huge Crash (Montreal): 0:54 Back to Fuji for this one. Much like other racing games of the era, your car explodes in a massive fireball if you hit a rival car! However, in Pole Position II they improved the explosion, with wheels and parts flying everywhere!
