Vlogging On A Samsung Galaxy A90 5G Android Smartphone - First Vlog Test
Alright, so just as the title says, this is my first proper test for vlogging on the Samsung Galaxy A90 5G Android smartphone.
I had done some quick tests where I'd filmed stuff on my table but that wasn't anything like a serious attempt at vlogging.
Straight away I'd have to say that the phone performed way better than I'd expected and the cameras on the A90 5G, as far as I'm concerned, are absolutely great for what they are.
Right now, I'd have to say that the Galaxy A90 5G is the best value for money out of Samsung's Galaxy range. In fact, I'd also have to say that it's quite possibly one of the best buys of any Android smartphone due to it having the Snapdragon 855 CPU processor inside.
Like I said in the video, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 inside the Galaxy A90 5G, makes it more powerful than any variation of the Samsung Galaxy S10 that you'd buy in the UK and most parts of mainland Europe. That's because in most parts of the world the flagship Samsung Galaxy smartphones such as the S10 and going back to the S9, S8 etc. come with the Exynos processor. You guys in North America and other certain territories in the world are so jammy because you always get the Snapdragon versions, which are generally more powerful. In fact, even the Samsung Galaxy S20 in the UK doesn't come with a Snapdragon processor.
Plus, don't forget, the Galaxy A90 5G is also 5G capable. This makes it by far the cheapest Samsung smartphone that has 5G and here in the UK it's also the cheapest Android smartphone, period, that has 5G capabilities.
Here's a few more specs for the phone.
It has 6GB of RAM
128GB of internal storage
you can add high capacity SD cards
it has Dolby atmos functionality, 6.7" full rectangle 1080 x 2400 (FHD+) Super AMOLEDscreen,
48.0 MP + 5.0 MP + 8.0 MP rear cameras with F2.0 , F2.2 , F2.2 apertures
32.0 MP front camera
4500mAh battery
And a whole bunch of other stuff
In the video the first indoor shot was UHD 4K at 30FPS on the rear camera, first outdoor shot was also UHD 4K at 30FPS on the rear camera, the second outdoor shot was on the front camera which records maximum HD 1080P which is what I shot and ay 30 FPS, the last outdoor shot was on the rear cameras and was stabilised with the phone's EIS electronic image stabiliser that drops the resolution to HD 1080P and was also 30FPS, then the last shot indoors was back to UHD 4K 30P on the rear camera again.
All shots that were HD 1080 were upscaled to 4K UHD in post so they matched the main 4K UHD footage.
As for the audio quality. Even the internal mics on the Galaxy A90 5G weren't terrible indoors but outdoors the internal mics sounded great, easily beating the internal mics on a GoPro Hero 8 Black. When I got back indoors and switched to an external vlogging microphone for the Galaxy A90 5G, in this instance my Sennheizer ME64 cardioid pencil condenser, there was a huge difference in sound and that was in spite of the phones internal audio processing and AGC limiting. The cable I used for connecting the external mic was the Samsung USB-C Headset Jack Adapter. The odd things is that Samsung don't mention that this adapter is TRRS and able to accept and external microphone, weired? But as you can hear, it works perfectly.
As for both the video picture quality and audio quality. I used the standard Samsung video app and recorded everything in automatic mode, as this is how most people would use such things. The only thing I done in post was my usual balancing and limiting of the microphone audio, which is what I'd always do with vloggy stuff but there was no extra EQ or anything like that, so what you were hearing was the true sound of the internal and external mics.
Cheers,
Dave.
