War Dust (Battlefield VR) - VR Gameplay HTC Vive
21Nowhere near as population barren as I was lead to believe but definitely rough around the edges.
There are bugs. Oh boy are there some bugs and bad design decisions here...
The most in your face, quite literally, was the graphical issues that were popping up as just a plane of glitch across the sky. It doesn't quite impact gameplay all that much but it looks like ass.
The climbing is no where near as smooth as it is in StandOut, which is surprising. You'd think they'd have used the same system in this game. I'd like to see that refined.
The vehicles were fun but clunky. I didn't feel like I fit into them. The control panels felt like I should have been sitting to be in the proper position however then I'd have to spin the chair around as I turned. I didn't feel like my weapons fired where I was aiming. Specifically around 25:05. It's quite possible I'm doing something wrong, though with no instruction, no tutorial, no information whatsoever it's rather difficult to figure out what.
Fun, but a lot to improve on here.
The parachuting was fun and well done. I found myself swaying unconsciously as I turned in each direction, really getting into the experience.
The weapon handling was decent with options for gun angle and a smoothing slider. Very nice to see. Both options should be standard for shooter games at this point. I'd love to see the rifle stock calibration from Contractor$ added as well. (https://youtu.be/4YufiEnUonY)
In spite of all that I did find myself having fun at times.... Until I wasn't.
Teams are not balanced at all. I've found myself in games where I can't spawn without instantly being taken out by veteran players or bots that seem to just know where I am. Again, this could be me being bad but every game felt like it was an overwhelming victory or loss. There were no close games. This feels like another area that needs some polish.
The spawn room was atrocious. Absolutely awful. All those bodies all locked into one spot. All on top of each other. Up to 64 people in a fresh game where no one has selected teams, all in the same 6 by 6 square with open mics. Who the hell thought that was a good idea? That design decision alone is enough for a not recommended. This needs to change. Now.
Has it been changed yet? NO? WTH not?
Rant aside...
The game still needs a lot of work. It's rough edges definitely make it deserving of the Early Access title. If you can look past glitch walls and clunk, the core game here is fun, especially with friends. It's far more enjoyable with a good squad at your back.
Do I think the game is currently in a great place, no. This is another hard decision. It's rough enough to warrant a no right now but it was also fun and delivered on what it promised. As such I lean towards the thumbs up side of things with a caveat...
If you're adverse to EA titles, steer well clear of this one. If you can look past those flaws though, it might be worth picking up. Probably on sale...
