Why Is My Family So Messed Up? Understanding Their Toxic Personality!
On a serious note, toxic family behaviors are often not the fault of just one person.
Family toxicity can last for many generations and it may be difficult to identify why.
Toxic family traits can often be traced to a series of personality disorders that are diagnosed and undiagnosed.
In fact, a toxic family member could have narcissistie, borderline, avoidant, and obsessive-compulsive personality disorders and create problems for generations within a family.
*EXAMPLE:
Mixed personality disorder could show up in your father, for example, who has a very fragile ego, needs to be in control of everything and everyone, is competitive, and can come off as cold-hearted and caloused. This same father could also meet criteria for borderline personality because of his fragile ego, need to be in control, rigidity and rejection of life and relational changes, fear of being abandoned or disliked, and a fragile sense of self.
In this case, your father would be diagnosed with a specified personality disorder ("mixed personality disorder").
