10Mutants! Mutants everywhere! And they have come to eliminate the human race and you're the only one who can stop them. Grab your gun and eliminate these invaders here in Wild Wasteland. The mission here is to keep your character alive for as long as possible. Robots considered as mutants will appear on the screen and will shoot at you. Move your character near them to automatically shoot. Be sure to avoid their projectiles or else the game will be over. Collect the capsules filled with toxic wastes and use them to upgrade the stats of your character and defeat different bosses.
Overview:
The title of the game is Wild Wasterlands but they scratch the R so it’s technically Wild Wastelands. It makes sense since the game takes place in the Wasteland. A ragtag of mutants along with a number of weird enemies is knocking down on someone’s fort. Heroes must now fight to get rid of these monstrosities out in the middle of nowhere.
Aesthetics:
Wild Wasterlands uses cartoon based imagery and artwork. The art itself looks good as it has a mixture of nice and whimsical themes to it but doesn’t go a bit boring in a sense. The character and enemy designs are also good but if you look really careful, you would notice that some of the designs are based off other popular media characters. The animations for both the characters and enemies are also fluent and smooth. Perhaps the only downer is that the terrain never changes but it still looks good. The music has that synthetic rock and roll theme to it and it plays throughout the level. It does stop when you die or at the shop menu. The overall aesthetics are good for the game.
Gameplay:
Wild Wasterlands is a survival game. You control your character by making him move in all direction. It is a 2D game so you only have one point of view. The character will automatically fire his gun and the players can control the distance that their character can fire. They need to shoot down enemies that come in waves from all directions. While this is happening, the boss’ gauge will fill up until it appears on the screen. Players must then defeat the boss and when it dies, you need to prepare for the next wave. The succeeding waves are the same as the first one but you still need to survive the enemies. The process repeats until the last boss is defeated. When you’re just beginning, you will have one heart or life. When you get hit by an enemy then you will naturally die and have to start from the beginning. This is why you have to strengthen your characters. Enemies will be dropping canisters which are the currency for the game. You can choose to upgrade your character’s performance. You can upgrade their movement speed, attack power, critical rating, attack damage, more canisters dropping and being able to magnetize these canisters. Then of course there are the characters that they can buy as well. There are five characters in total and you start with just one. When you buy a character you get an additional heart or life. In totality you can have five hearts so this is good so that you can get to the end zone of the game. The bad thing is that you can only use one character at a time so you can’t switch them during the game. Each character has their specialty as well as weapons and special abilities. Just remember to use a character that suits your play style.
