This is X-Men: The Ravages of Apocalypse with OpenAL Soft's HRTF [IRC_1037 tables] in FTE Quake. A rather odd concept for a Total Conversion, Ravages of Apocalypse puts you in the role of a nameless cyborg sent by Magneto to stop Apocalypse and Mr. Sinister from taking over the world with an army of X-Men clones. You'll take on all the familiar faces in this game and also Cannonball. In a unique twist from the usual Quake fare, you're forced to find a secret weapon part in each level to build a super weapon that makes the bosses vulnerable. No doubt this was inspired by Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and its Chronoscepter pieces. This TC is awfully violent and disturbing for a franchise normally aimed at teens, though the only "gibs" are the shards of ice that Iceman bursts into. No doubt its sales tanked due to releasing shortly after Quake II came out.
FTE Quake might not be the best source port by any stretch of the imagination, but the positional audio quality is amazing compared to Quakespasm and Darkplaces. You can really hear all those grenades bouncing around you. I must say, I had a great time with this TC even though it has a bad reputation due to Civvie 11's review. The level design varies greatly in quality due to having a whopping 16 level designers, with the first two maps being the absolute worst. X2M2: Industrial Takeover is by far the stand-out map, as it perfectly demonstrates the iconic "Quake Techbase" theme invented by John Romero. The soundtrack by Method of the W.O.R.M. is also surprisingly high-quality for a commercial Quake mod.
