X205TA Gaming - Fallout: New Vegas
X205TA Gaming - Fallout: New Vegas. Testing Fallout: New Vegas at Low settings and Medium textures on the inexpensive ASUS EeeBook X205TA-US01-BL , both at 800 x 600 resolution and at 1280 x 720 ( 720p ) resolutions to see how playable it is.
Surprisingly to me, the 720p resolution came away more playable than I expected.. with 25-30 fps for the most part, but more complex lighting and density of objects send it under 20fps. The lower resolution of 800 x 600 seems to be 5-10 fps higher in all areas, while still maintaining a nice look. So depending on your preference, you can either select a smoother experience or a more cinematic one.
The Atom Quad Core Z3735F CPU, in conjunction with the 2Gb of system RAM also shows 5-10 fps performance increase over the same test in the identically clocked Z3735G with 1Gb of RAM in the HP Stream 7 (which is identical to the HP Stream 8 ). This demonstrates the improvement we see with more memory and a better memory bandwidth in this processor over the one in the Stream tablets.
And as always, I do mention that the HP Stream 11 - the other well known 11.6" competitor to the Asus X205TA - will have slightly higher framerates than what you see here (approx 2-4fps) due to it's higher clock speed, but being a dual core, you will see it take some noticeable dips and you seem to get a more consistant framerate in the X205TA overall. This is the difference between a dual and quad core CPU, but it is minimal and either machine is a good buy for such tiny laptops.
Anyway, please see what you think and leave a comment below if you wish. :)
