HP Stream Mini Gaming - Skyrim
HP Stream Mini Gaming - Skyrim. The little $179 HP Stream Mini 200-010 PC plays Skyrim at 1280x720 (720p) with very decent framerates. While we range typically from 24-30fps, we do see dips depending on particle effects (smoke and fog do hit low end processors pretty hard), for the most part we have a nice looking game playable at 720p. This is especially surprising given the out-the door cost of this little desktop.
Now this was installed to a USB 2.0 stick (acting as a drive) rather than the internal M.2 SSD, but it still worked okay. It would be ideal to use a USB 3.0 hard drive or memory stick. Due to the bad design of the SD card slot (the majority of a card sticks out of the side - see the Stream Mini review), it seemed a safer bet to use the USB 3.0 ports at the back of the Stream Mini to connect a storage device.
With the HP Stream Mini 200-010, this marks the first device we have tested where a low end sub-$200 Windows 8.1 PC is capable of playing Skyrim at 720p at a comfortable framerate.
While it may not be perfect, for its cost, the performance is quite impressive. Esp considering that the MSRP for Windows 8.1 alone is $120 ! :-p
