Xenoblade Chronicles DE: Part 6: The Monado's New Wielder & His Foretold Loss
The Mechon continued their ravenous rampage upon Colony 9. Fortunately, hope rode forth as Dunban was able to leave his home to pick up the Monado once more to help fend off the Mechon as he did in Sword Valley one year ago.
But this hope didn't last, as the Monado continued to take its toll on his body. It brought him to his knees, and forced him to cough up blood. Even if it meant defending Colony 9, if Dunban were to continue using the Monado at this point, he would've surely died!
Shulk, with his experience of wielding a sword, combined with his constantly research of the Monado, itself, finally decided that it was time for him to take up the Sword of the Bionis and battle the Mechon, himself!
When Dunban feared that the Monado would kill Shulk for using it, something different happened instead...
He had one of those... strange visions again. He saw himself getting shot. So when this premonition ended, he dodged the shot that he was going to get hit by. He had another Vision where he was struck by another Mechon, and then he promptly dodged that, too.
It looks like he was looking into the future...
----------
From this point on, Shulk's Junk Sword is replaced by the Monado, and likewise, Dunban has switched to a different sword, with a new fighting style to go with it.
You can now once again use Monado Enchant and Monado Buster as Dunban had, but now you can use the Monado with Shulk's other Arts.
Remember that Monado Enchant is used to enable your allies to damage Mechon with the ordinary weapons for a few seconds. Meanwhile, the Monado Buster art is a long frontal attack that does extraordinary damage to Mechon.
----------
Shulk, Reyn, and Dunban continue their way towards the Residential District to find Fiora, but then...
They were cornered by that bigger, black-colored, metal-faced Mechon.
When it seemed like the trio had nothing to fear, the Monado was proven to be ineffective against this Mechon. Shulk believes it has something to do with the red lights surging through this Mechon. This massive Mechon, literally named Metal Face, proved to be too much for all three of them to handle.
Fiora comes roaring in with the mech she found in a brave every to defend her friends and older brother from this monstrous machine... but even that was proven to only be a distraction at best...
Shulk had another Vision... and it was more terrifying than his last few. He saw that Fiora would lose this battle and be struck down by Metal Face. He tried to warn Fiora... but it was all too late...
Even as Fiora was able to blast Metal Face into its face, it proved to be ineffective. Fiora, still in her mech, was thrown to a building by Metal Face and got herself stuck.
Metal Face dealt the finishing blow with its massive claws. A shriek was heard, and blood stained the machine's claws as it pulled them out...
Fiora... was killed, and her remains were tossed aside to be fed to smaller Mechon.
Shulk, having not only witnessed the most heartbreaking moment of his life, but a moment he had the ability to prevent... and yet failed to...
Shulk has now craved for revenge.
"I'LL KILL YOOOOOOOOOU!!!"
----------
Now the game will allow you to at least damage Metal Face. It's like when fighting smaller Mechon when Shulk had the Junk Sword.
First, use Shulk's Stream Edge art to inflict Break on Metal Face. Then, wait for Reyn to use Wild Down to Topple Metal Face. That's when you can properly damage Metal Face with at least the Monado.
But even then, larger enemies like Metal Face may be resistant to Break Arts. You might have to use a Chain Attack to force Break on him if you're trying to Topple him. I get a good one going on him, here.
But even from there, the game doesn't actually allow you to defeat Metal Face, just yet.
----------
"DIIIE!!!"
Shulk, still bursting with rage over Fiora's death, puts up a fight against Metal Face on his own. He stab the Mechon right in the face, the same side of its face that Fiora blasted with her machine, but even this wasn't enough.
When it looked like Metal Face was going to continue his assault, he suddenly stopped, gave Dunban a menacing glare, and retreated alongside his fellow Mechon minions.
Many casualties have transpired on Colony 9. Many lives were lost, and many survivors grieved, but in particular... it has felt like Shulk, himself, had bared the most pain of it all...
----------
In the next day, Shulk was back in Outlook Park, realizing that the girl he loved the most was now gone forever. It was just yesterday that they've wished that Colony 9 could live in peace for the rest of their lives...
Dunban did not mourn his sister's loss, because he already knew that lost from the Sword Valley battle, and saw it as an effort to help others live on.
Shulk has decided to swear full revenge on the Mechon. To hunt them down, and avenge Fiora.
He left Colony 9 with Reyn to commence his revenge, and Dunban promised for himself that he would eventually join them.
